2008 Pritchard’s Island Invitational

runningthroughthewater.jpg

This weekend, Michael, Graham, and I had the awesome privilege of being invited to the 2008 Pritchard’s Island Invitational. Pritchard’s Island is an undeveloped barrier island off the coast of Beaufort County.   We are lucky enough to be friends with a great guy, Captain Al, who has rights to a camp on this island.  There is a loggerhead conservation program run by USC Columbia on the island as well.  The invitational helped to benefit the turtles which was great.

Michael and I had made the trip together about a year prior and I was very eager to return.  Pritchard’s is really a magical place where all stress is left behind.   Graham came with us this year too.   He had an amazing time and was able to experience so much of what nature has to offer!  Surae stayed at home with my dad and had an equally great time I’m sure getting spoiled and being pampered.  They are bonding very well!

Thanks to my dad for allowing us to have the opportunity to take this trip and thanks to Captain Al for extending an invitation to us to join him in this little slice of paradise!

Graham found a jellyfish which Captain Al assured us was not poisonous.

We saw lots of starfish.

The island is covered in all of this beautiful driftwood.

We were able to watch 2 dolphins swim by and then start hitting fish with their tails.   It was amazing and such a rare glimpse for me of nature in action.

Graham caught the one and only fish of the weekend!  He was very proud.

The camp even provides a shower- it may be a bucket with a hole, but it does the trick!

Happy Easter!

suraewithegg.jpg

We had a great weekend filled with Easter fun.  On Saturday, we went to a fantastic Easter Egg Hunt at my colleague, Francis’s house.  The weather was beautiful and a ton of people came out to join in the fun including the Easter Bunny himself!  Graham was definitely a bit starstruck.

Today, Graham and Surae started the day finding their Easter baskets and the eggs that the Easter Bunny left around the house.

Then, we went to Melanie and Dave’s house for Easter lunch.  Graham was so excited to see all of his cousins, while Surae approached things a bit more cautiously.  She loosened up a bit after a while though.  Surae still approaches people with some uncertainty and clings to Mommy and Daddy pretty tightly.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

We made it down to the Irish festival to enjoy the weather and check out some Celtic music.  Graham had fun dancing with girls although he mostly played air guitar for them while they danced.  Surae loves hearing music too and bounces to the beat.

Wilbur Comes For a Visit

Graham’s classroom has a class teddy bear.   He comes home with a different child each weekend and this past one was Graham’s lucky weekend.  Michael decided to document Wilbur’s stay with us and Graham acted out a few scenes.   Be advised- the photo of Wilbur knocking at the door could induce nightmares!

First Steps

suraestanding.jpg

Surae is starting to attempt some first steps although she is very wobbly and unsure.  She usually lunges at me and falls into my chest or now she sometimes will attempt this sideways crab style walk.  I think she will be walking very soon and then we will really have our hands full.  She has made so much progress since coming home!
