Riverbanks Zoo with Pop Pop

Graham, Pop Pop, and I took a road trip over spring break to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia.  With Graham still in the midst of potty training, it was a bit of a challenge, but we took it on.  Graham did achieve something pretty miraculous too on the trip.  After we ate, I took Graham to the potty.  Well, the zoo was packed and the bathroom line was insanely long.  I wasn’t really worried about Graham being able to hold it because Graham has the bladder control of steel, but Graham doesn’t like to go in public toilets yet.  I mean, at this point, I could barely get him to go in his little potty.  So, I figured we would get all the way in there and Graham wouldn’t go anyway.  So, I saw a wooded area next to the restrooms and figured, why not?  I asked Graham if he wanted to pee in the woods and he said, “Yes!”  We went over there, he pulled down his pants, and proceeded to pee.  Who knew it could be so simple?  I was shocked!…… and relieved!

We had a good time at the zoo although Graham was a little antsy because that was the last time he went to the bathroom until we got home that night!  On a side note, this was a week and a half ago and he is now doing much better.  We are achieving much more potty success!

The family got together last weekend for a picnic and some time at the park.   Melanie brought eggs filled with goodies and the kids had an Easter Egg Hunt too.  The weather was beautiful and it was a fantastic day!  Nana

Potty Time

Potty TimeOur world has been dominated by potty time lately.  We threw away Graham’s diapers a few weeks ago after a month or so of trying to potty train with diapers and realizing that Graham had the bladder control of steel.  It has been a long few weeks, but we are finally making progress.  I just had no idea how much effort all of this was going to take and if I didn’t have the weight of day care telling me he needs to be potty trained on my shoulders I probably would have kept in diapers much longer.  Unfortunately, Graham cannot move into the 3 year old room until he is fully potty trained and that is fast approaching!   Graham really is catching on now.  It’s just taken a while, because we appear to have one stubborn boy on our hands who is not easily manipulated.  We tried all the traditional potty training methods- stickers, candy, hitting the cheerios, Dr. Phil’s potty training doll, and nothing easily convinced Graham that the potty was the way to go.  He’s coming around though and does love his big boy underwear.  Our little guy is growing up!
